Frequently Asked Questions
How is the NITESTIK powered? Where are the Batteries? The NITESTIK uses a high capacity 24v battery pack installed in the top tube of the telescoping three section mast. This allows the top tube - along with the light head and controls to rotate freely since there are no wires to get tangled. The NITESTIK includes a smart charger that plugs into a recharge port located at the front top of the mast near the light head. The battery pack uses NiMH battery chemistry for increased capacity, higher power, lighter weight, and the ability to recharge at any point in the discharge cycle without damage to the battery pack. The system includes patented electronic circuitry that maintains a constant peak light output for 9 long hours of dim-free run time and the battery pack has a life expectancy of up to 1,000 recharge cycles. What kind of light is used on the NITESTIK? The NITESTIK uses a super bright white 10w LED spotlight focused to a 15 degree beam. The LED is manufactured by Seoul Semiconductor Inc. in South Korea and is one of the most powerful single LED's on the market. The housing is cast aluminum and acts as a heat sink which allows the surface mounted LED to be pushed to an incredible 900 lumen of white light, casting a beam to 800ft. The silver face plate is 6061 aluminum and is machined to accept our high quality glass filters to manage the intensity and color of the light beam for various situations. The light head is rated for 50,000 hours of use and is IP68 rated. How is the NITESTIK constructed? The design of the NITESTIK was focused on one goal; being the best night hunting platform available with a great selection of innovative accessories. Hunting at night demands that you have a lightweight, long run time, simple to use hunting light that is easy to deploy and allows the best opportunity to get on your quarry and be able to squeeze the trigger. The tubes of the mast and tripod are constructed from aircraft grade aluminum and then color black anodized. The telescoping adapters are heavy duty thick walled polypropylene with brass threaded inserts in the adjusters. The NITESTIK is weather resistant, but is not designed to be left in the field for extended periods. The complete NITESTIK design adds up to a lightweight, heavy duty tripod with a variable height mast up to ten feet that is easy to transport and set up anywhere - and is ready to perform it's task. Why do most people use a red filter on hand-held spotlights? A predator's eyes have the ability to see at night, but that comes at a price - they don't have green cones in their eyes like people, which leaves them with only red and blue cones. Whether a hunter uses a red, orange, amber, or yellow on a spotlight, a predator will see these colors as different shades of yellow. The reason most hunters use a red lens in handheld spotlights is because it's the only color that reduces the intensity of that high candlepower spot light beam enough to hunt. The NITESTIK produces a lower intensity of bright white so the various color filters effectively produce different ranges of intensity for various hunting ranges. How do you select a color filter? The color filters change the color of the light and also light intensity of the NITESTIK. It is important to have the right intensity for your hunting situation. PRED-RED, PRED-FIRE, PRED-BLAZE, and PRED-AMBER were developed to give the predator hunter a progression in range through intensity modification. PRED-RED is the lowest intensity for short ranges of 50-75yds and increases through PRED-AMBER - being the longest range filter for up to 200+ yards. If a hunter wants to be able to take a shot at 100 yards calling in predators, then choose the lens that allows the intensity of the light out to that range. The reflection of eyes from approaching animals, however, will be seen well past that 100 yard mark. Working the approaching predators with the halo of light is also a must, waiting until your are ready to make the shot before you lower them beam on them. FERAL-GREEN has been used successfully for hunting hogs over baited areas, and is a good spectrum of light for high contrast vision. Do you have to use the accessories in order to hunt? The NITESTIK comes with everything you need to get started hunting at night with a bright white lighting system. Much of the benefit of the NITESTIK comes from the steady light source that projects light long distances and can be left on for extended periods of time. Hunting with high intensity white light has a tendency to spook many animals, but stationary, steady lighting left on can be an effective technique when newly hunting baited areas. Increasing distance is one method for reducing the output intensity on the target. Eventually you may find that by enhancing your system with additional colors and accessories may lead to increased hunting setup opportunities as well as increased hunting success in the night. What kind of warranty does the NITESTIK have? The NITESTIK includes a limited warranty that guarantees the light head, battery pack, smart charger and tripod chassis system to be free from manufacturing defects for a period of one year from original purchase date. The warranty does not include any damage that may occur as a result of improper use or abuse.
